Linge : Emma Fitts. 15 MARCH - 3 APRIL, 2003

Fitts exhibited a series of new paintings which radically departed from the austere notion that painting consists of flat image-centric surfaces. Asking herself, ‘Where does the image exist in painting’ Fitts experimented with the idea of the canvas becoming the content of the painting. As such the ‘canvas not only holds an image but becomes the image holding its own three-dimensional depth, as the application of paint plays a secondary role in the creation of illusion’.
